2015 Glenwood Springs
Orcas Island

For Salmon Enhancement, We Contributed $6,322.78 for Incubator Trays.
Our funding provided five new racks of trays
and with the purchase, the manufacture donated a sixth.

Several of us visited the hatchery today August 7, 2015
and it was impressive!

They release almost 600,000 king salmon every year
and are a 501 (c) (3) corporation.
They operate from state grants and private donations.

We quizzed them about who catches the fish and
they said the wire tag records show that everybody does from way north to locally.
The fish return in the spring and we catch them in July and August.

This was cool, there were about 100 King Salmon
in the salt in front of the hatchery ready to span.
I apologize, we could see them with our polarized
sun glasses, I need a polarized lens for my camera.

Ah ha, you can see this one better,,,,

There were more already installed

Would you believe they raise 200,000 fry in
this pond?  the picture doesn't do it justice.
It was crystal clear and ten feet deep.

Coho were raised here, but the return wasn't
good so that effort was discontinued.

The pond just before the salt.
